Joseph sat there in his command chair, watching as the bridge crew went about their duties. Suddenly, an alarm sounded. Looking over at the DRADIS station, Joseph sat on the edge of his seat.
"SIR! DRADIS contacts, bearing one seven niner karem three four. Bogeys Sir, it's raiders."
Joseph got up from his seat and walked over to the DRADIS, peering down at the screen. He could see multiple blips but had no idea how many raiders there were.
"Can you make out how many?"
The Specialist looked at the screen, then responded after a few seconds.
"Six, perhaps seven Sir. What are your orders Captain?"
"Jump immediately to the pre-set coordinates. Inform anyone else who has yet to jump, to do so now."
"Aye Sir, jumping in ten seconds."
As the seconds ticked away, Joseph continued to watch the DRADIS. As the alst few seconds approached, Joseph sat back in his chair. The Navigation Officer called out the last seconds.
"....three, two, one, JUMP!"
FWOOMP!!!
And the Marauder was gone in a flash, heading to the Colonies.

What seemed like an eternity had actually been only a few moments. Suddenly, the Marauder had jumped to the first set of coordinates, a distance of 100 A.U. As the ship settled in, the crew began their systems checks, ensuring that the ship was secure and everything was operating as it should be. Joseph got up from his chair and walked over to the DRADIS station. Standing behind the young woman sitting there, Joseph bent down a little.
"Fleet status Specialist."
The woman took a second to look at her screen before replying.
"All ships are present Sir, no problems to report."
Joseph stood up straight, then began issuing orders.
"Comm, contact all ships and instruct them to check their ships, if they aren't doing so already. Also, inform them we make the next jump in eight hours, so they should take this time to get ready for the next jump."
The Communications officer looked at Joseph and nodded.
"Aye Captain."

The Raptor had climbed smoothly away from Atlantia and flew the converging course to Marauder. When they had cleared Atlantia's airspace and switched over to Marauder's frequency.
"CMS Marauder, this is Colonial Raptor 1701 carrying a passenger, requesting permission to land."

The Communications Officer looked over to the Watch Officer and got a nod.
"Affirmative, Raptor 1701. You're cleared to land portside. Let Colonel Dualla know that his stateroom is ready for him." That was what the manifest had said, which the Watch Officer informed the Bridge about. Being a merchant ship, passengers and cargo were important to know by all because they meant money. Paying customers were often repeat customers if they were treated with courtesy.

"Attention the Colonial fleet this is Commander Yogi of the Atlantia. I come baring bad news after many sectares of being free from the rogue Cylon's and Sleeper agent's. I regret to inform all of you that just yesterday one of my loyal Cylon crew turned out to bed a Rogue Cylon Sleeper. His name was Major Alexander Phoenix his been my friend and my CAG for yahren's but most of you known him has the Secretary of Defense. The Atlantia is in the process of changing all it's defenses codes and I hope your Commander's will follow suite. Now I also contacted the Terran Defense about this, and he assured me it will be taken care of. Now were being ordered back but I am fearful that this could be a trap set in motion by Alex. I however won't be returning just yet, were in the middle of recording and searching the ship. I have known this man far to long to know his tricks and returning right now is just what his wants. To kick us when were down, I vowed to protect my crew and the fleet when I took this Job and I won't risk put anyone at risk. Yogi out"

*A lone pilot makes his way to the CIC to deliver an important letter from the Admiral's* To all Colonial fleet ships in Terran system
From Fleet Admiral Middleton
All ships not assigned to the Terran fleet are to jump to coordinates 0332 7108 5286 (the other side of the system). From there, all ships will wait until the message is received to jump back to Terra. This will include the Battlestars Atlantia and Acheron as well as all ships currently in the Fleet shipyards and anchorages.
The Cylons will think the Fleet is jumping here to the Cylon outpost to finish our attack, or they will think we are jumping to their home world. Either way, this will surely cause them to send their entire fleet to Terra. The gunstars and cruisers transferred to the Terrans can hold them off until the Fleet jumps back.
From there, we will accomplish an all-out assault upon the Cylon fleet. My Flagship the Leonides and its accompanying battlegroup will also jump to Terra.
All available Colonial Marine personnel are to stand ready on the planet for an invasion. All air defense units are to attack any and all incoming Cylon units at will.
Rear Admiral Yogi is in operational command of the attack on the Cylon fleet.
By order of Fleet Admiral Middleton.

"I want to thank everyone for being here. I don't want to make this any longer than it needs to be so let me get right to the point."
Phineas looked over at the Colonial Fleet techs sitting at a table to his left.
"Are we ready? Good. Ladies and gentlemen, Colonial, Terran and Gondawan citizens, members of the Colonial and Terran Fleets: This is your President. I wish to take this opportunity to make this announcement."
Pjineas waited for second, taking a sip of water from the glass on the podium. Looking at the group of people seated in front of him, he smiled then continued speaking.
"Effective immediately, I am disbanding the Colonial government and resigning my elected position as President, Twelve Colonies of Kobol. All Colonial elected officials are hereby stripped of their respective titles and offices. All civilian government employees shall immediately become employees of the Terran government."
Phineas waited for the effect of his words to sink in before continuing.
"The reason for this action is simple. The CMS Marauder has returned from her mission to the Colonies and has brought back with her further evidence that the Colonial government has re-established itself back on the Twelve Colonies. As such, there can not be two Colonial governments, two Colonial Presidents and so forth. Also, all government activity here on Terra is handled by and has been handled by the now fully established Terran government.
All Colonial citizens have been subject to Terran laws and regulations for a number of years, so the change will not even be noticeable. As for the Colonial Fleet, nothing will change in that respect. The Colonial Fleet is and always has been the Colonial Fleet. Captain Joseph Markus of the Marauder has brought back a representative of the government back on the Colonies. This woman will act as nothing more than an observer but will also be a liaison of sorts. More information will be provided in the coming weeks.
I want to make it clear that there will be NO mutinies or revolutions or acts of sedition because of this announcement. I have been assured by the Fleet Admiral that she will personally see to it anyone guilty of such acts shall be dealt with under Fleet law and regulations, which means death. The Cylons are still a threat. The Fleet will still perform its primary duty, to protect this planet and the stations and settlements within this solar system. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for having the confidence in me to name me as your President. I will now embark on a new journey, one which I hope will put an end to this senseless war between humanity and Cylons. So Say We All!"

As the Marauder made its way to where the President and the other officials were located, Joseph was informed of a Cylon presence there. Although the ship was more than adequately armed for both defensive and offensive operations, taking on an established surface force was not the wisest move. Joseph looked over to his XO.
"Colonel, I think perhaps we should come in fast, drop out of a high altitude approach and seconds before we hit the surface, jump out of the atmosphere."
The new XO, Colonel Morgan Hinckley, looked puzzled, unsure of what the maneuver would accomplish.
"Begging the Captain's pardon, but all that is going to do is stir a lot of dirt up and make a mess..."
The XO smiled, realizing what the Captain had in mind.
"Yes SIR! That'll catch the Cylons off guard. I take it we then jump back, or come into the atmosphere fast, and make a combat landing on the surface?"
Joseph was still looking at some papers but listening to the XO.
"Yes, we jump to a point not far from Terra station, then turn about and swoop back into the atmosphere. We'll come in fast and low, guns blazing, swoop down and scoop up our passengers, then lift off and jump the frak out of there before any Cylon batteries can sight us and ope up on our position. I want all hands readied in two minutes because that's when we'll be there. Get ready Colonel."
Colonel Hinckley nodded and walked to the PA.
"All hands, set Condition One and prepare for combat approach, followed by atmospheric jump."
Looking at the bridge crew spring into action, she couldn't help but mutter to herself.
"I sure hope this works"

Joseph had already buckled himself into his chair and was steadily looking out the front viewing window of the bridge. He had only done this maneuver once before and it didn't involve a planet with an atmosphere. No, that time it was a large moon that orbited a gas giant not far from Tauron airspace. he recalled heaving up his lunch that time. Something told him this would be much worse. Looking straight ahead, Joseph called out to the crew.
"Brace for impact."
Joseph was wishing he could be on the surface to see the full efect of what was about to take place.
In an instant, the ship swooped down from high above. When the shiip was only five hundred meters from slamming into the surface below, the Nav officer turned the FTL key and SWOOOOSH!
The Marauder, in an instant, suddenly disappeared in a sonic boom and cloud of dust, denris and chunks of the surface. The sound was deafening to say the least, the sonic boom echoing off of the surrounding hills and buildings. Several less sturdy structures were immediately destroyed. Vehicles were tossed around like toys. The ship had managed to jump almost directly over the cylon position, takinig out the anti-aircraft battery below and sending humans and centurions in all directions, to include upwards of four hundred meters.
The Marauders gunners had managed to take out a few of the enemy positions prior to the jump but unfortunately some of the intended rounds had also found friendlies below. A couple of rounds form the surface had struck the underside of the ship but fortunately no major damage was done.
It would be a few moments before the Marauder would return to pick up her passnegers and it was hoped that when the ship did return, there wouldn't be much of an enemy presence to contend with.
Something told Joseph not to expect such a luxury.

As the Marauder made her jump out of the atmosphere, then back, Joseph was busy monitoring the DRADIS. Funny, no sign of any enemy ships, not even a raider. he had been briefed by the President that the former Defense Minister would be the one behind the attack but he figured the man would at least bring some raiders and a few heavy ones to boot. Joseph knew the man still had friends, sympathizers so to speak, within the ranks of the Colonial Fleet so it didn't come as a real surprise that there were no base stars, but still he figured a couple of heavy raiders and a squadron of fighters would be lurking around somewhere.
As the ship made its approach, the gunners were busy firing at anything that moved on the surface between them and their passengers. There were a number of centurions on the ground, most of them were in pieces, compliments of their little surprise maneuver. H e was amazed at how quickly the centurions had erected air defense batteries in the area. he was more impressed at how efficiently his gunners had managed to take out those batteries. Still, he knew there would be enemy personnel waiting for the ship to land before assaulting it and what perfect time to do so as when they would be taking on their passengers. Looking at his Security Chief, Joseph spoke to the woman.
"Marci, I want your Marines and security people ready, combat debarking the moment we touch the surface."
Major Marci Lopa nodded at Joseph and swiftly turned around, heading towards the cargo bay where her people were assembled. It had been some time since she had made a combat landing and the adrenaline was flowing throughout her body, the excitement building. It was toaster killing time again and she could hardly wait.
Joseph watched as she left the bridge. Looking out the main viewing window, he watched as the surface came up to greet them. Within seconds, they had landed.
"All hands, ready for enemy contact. All weapons prepare to repel boarders, all security personnel stand at your stations. Landing party, you are go for debarking."
Joseph now waited, as did the rest of the crew.

Clayton had mad his way to the CIC of the Marauder. He'd received several greetings and returned quite a few salutes. Evidently, the crew had been informed as to the identities of at least himself, and probably the entire contingent of evacuees. There was no casual fitting in for him, so he donned the military bearing of a Colonial Officer. He could see and hear a measure of what was probably awe, and he wondered what stories had been spread about the retired Colonel? Was it that he was from Galactica? The ship had become a legend during Admiral Adama's time, and Commanders Bobberman and Wagner had carried on in the tradition of Adama. Donovan had been Colonel Tigh's equal. Clayton had had the good luck and fortune to have been associated with them. He was an engineer-soldier, or a soldier-engineer. But he's served with and under the best in the Colonial fleet. A particular display had stopped him in his progress, though. It was highly developed, and he could see influences that were non-Colonial. Probably Terran, though he wasn't familiar enough with his adopted home's technology to be able to place it. It was a true three-dimensional display, and he felt as if he were looking into a tank instead of a holographic screen. It was not the depth of the image, but the nature of it. He was observing a display of the condition of the FTL field. Since the time he'd been able to feel FTL, he'd marveled at the visual interpretation of the spacial disorientation. He knew that was he was seeing was the tachyon field that was generated around the ship. In the center, he saw the path to the other jump point, the exit from hyperspace. This was not the dual-cone and pane mathematical drawing, but as close to the real thing as could be imaged by a computer. It was a thing of great beauty, and Clayton wondered if anyone else really saw what he did. To them it may be a simple graphic of the status of the Jump drive: intensity, integrity, strength. He saw it as a living thing. The thing that happened next was unexpected. The image underwent a change, one so rapid that he would have missed it if he had not been looking straight on. The field flipped, something that was theoretically possible though impossible to accomplish outside of a ship's jumping with the coils out of phase. If that actually happened, the unfortunate ship in the middle of the field would disappear from the universe forever. Physicists had argued what would even happen to it. Some said that its component quarks would be dispersed throughout known space, joining the Cosmic Background Radiation. Others thought that the ship would vanish into a singularity smaller than a quark. Only one that he knew, his friend Carl Savage, had put forth yet another idea in his doctoral thesis of FTL physics that earned him the moniker 'Doc'. In that instant, Clayton intuitively knew; not just empirically understood, but actually felt and comprehended both intellectually and emotionally what Doc was writing about. More than that, he began to have ideas as to how to bring it about. He wished that the bronze man were there to bounce his thought off of, but he would have to develop them himself and keep them to himself for now at least. The last person he would want to share them with right now was one of his former charges, and nominally his potential boss: James Drexl.
