SUBLIGHT: System unknown, as there are no conventional exhaust ports, but is capable of chasing down a Colonial Battlestar with a moderate pursuit.
ARMOR: Limited to triple strength blast bulkheads boxing in the VLS bays, designed to force any explosion into space, and single strength blast bulkheads around main engineering.
WEAPONS: Two 500 unit Vertical Launch missile Systems [VLS] mounted in the dorsal and ventral main hull; typically loaded with standard ship-to-ship missiles. Point defense systems being considered for anti-fighter roles but not yet installed.
FIGHTER COMPLEMENT: 12 Air wings [960 raiders] in external quick launchers with another 2 air wings [160 raiders] in reserve within the hangar bays and 12 6-ship squadrons of heavy raiders. Small craft equally distributed within the star’s “arms”.
DESCRIPTION: A variant of the standard MkII basestar, this ship has had its missile turrets and main guns removed in favor for the two VLS systems and the increased complement of raiders. In all other respects it is identical to the standard MkII.. Typical deployment is that of a true fighter carrier and will avoid any ship to ship confrontations.

Advanced sensory systems in outer booms with ECM capability in overhead boom [with machine guns replaced] DESCRIPTION: This raider is primarily a scout/reconnaissance craft with minimal weapons and armor. It has a primary hull made up of titanium for both strength and lightness and offers some armor protection against the smaller projectiles. It has third generation Carbolite outer hull to make it stealthy. [Widely rumored to be almost totally invisible to active DRADIS in the RF bands; detection range 1,000m maximum as an intermittent contact] The forward missile bays primarily carry decoy missiles and/or anti-radiation [HARM] missiles, but can carry ship-to-ship missiles in a pinch. Maneuvering and acceleration rates are slower than the M k II due to its increased mass. Its ECM capability [if equipped and active] renders it totally untrackable by DRADIS, although the DRADIS can determine rough bearing to a 70 degree cone.

Name: ARES Torpedo Type: Space missile Range: effectively 50Km Speed: 1,000m/s top speed Warhead: Two variants; Copper plasma jet Shaped charge, and Long rod penetrator [Tungsten] Description: This missile is a solid fuel rocket with an active UV homing system. The rocket motor burns for 10 seconds and gives the missile a 100m/s acceleration rate. This means for the missile to achieve its maximum speed it needs to be fired no less that 5,000m from the target. The maneuvering thrusters also have 10 seconds of "burn' time, but its primary means of guidance is gyroscopic in nature.
It carries onboard UV illuminators to "paint" the target, then uses shape recognition software to home in. It is rumored to be able to target individual airlock hatches, or other individual features such as Communications arrays, Flack batteries, and individual launch tubes.
The main warheads are designed primarily to punch through the heavy outer armored hulls of battlestars. The copper plasma jet "melts" a small hole through the hull, spraying molten metal into the compartment behind it, setting temporary fires and killing crew there. The long rod penetrator is designed to punch through the hull, then through any secondary hull behind that, going deeper into the ship. Any damage it inflicts is based upon direct impact. With either warhead, the hull almost always is compromised, causing varying degrees of decompression, more so with the penetrator. Although capable, these missiles are not typically deployed with nuclear warheads due to their much slower speed. This also means that they are easier to intercept.
These missiles are big, and thus only two can be carried by a standard raider since they themselves take up the entire missile bay. They also have some armor themselves, making them harder to damage than the more conventional missiles. In the case of the long rod penetrator, it cannot be blown up since it doesn't have any type of explosive warhead. The only hope is to destroy the guidance system and knock it off its course by direct impacts.
