REDACTED FOR SECURITY REASONSSHIP ************ the ship is modular, each of the 12 sections (10 arms and 2 base sections) has its own hybrid controller that is always in contact with other sections via TRACER, All arms are detachable, different number of arms get detached depending on the mission.
The basestar and raiders have a carbon composite coating to give the ship stealth capability as well as electromagnetic anti-gravity shielding that deflects or absorbs incoming energy weapon based fire. Each section of the base star has two separate, power cores and FTL drives able to work in tandem or alone,. The quarters have windows with a programmable view. Dorms are shared by the crew. Every section of the ship has its own medical and entertainment facilities.
FIGHTERS Every arm of the basestar has 10 squadrons of light raiders and 3 squadrons of heavy raiders
light raider squadron :4 sections of 4 ships each, each arm carrying 160 fighters total
heavy raider squadron : two sections of three ships each, each arm carrying 18 heavy raiders
6 squadrons of light raiders and 4 squadrons of heavy raiders attached to the central hull
squadron layout the same as in the arms.
Total complement
light raider: 1696 ships
heavy raider :204 ships
The refit raiderThe center nacelle is modular allowing for a quick change out between cylon and human/humanoid piloting. It doubles as a life pod with provisions (food patches) with an emergency FTL drive with preset jump coordinates to get the pilot back to a staging area. The weapons bays are configured in a modular system as well, allowing for quick conversion of weapons configuration. The raider also has the option of having up to three external pylons for added capabilities to include triple unit missile rails and external gun pods.
Pirana class raider effectively a standard raider with the following modifications: uses the same hydronium imploder as used in the basestar, uses the VASIMR type SLD system for primary SDL propulsion, the same electromagnetic antigravity shielding as the basestar, refined stealth carbon composite to not only absorb DRADIS type signals but also energy from energy type weapons and dual FTL drives. It also carries a nose mounted pulse laser Gatling gun capable of very high rates of fire; a weapon system that is also being considered for deployment in gun pod form for all fighter types.
HEAVY RAIDERSAll modified heavy raiders employ the imploder power system found in the base star and the VASIMR SLD propulsion system. All have the standard carbon composite outer hull for stealth capability. All deploy standard ECM equipment as well as the tactical FTL jump drives.
Reconnaissance Heavy RaiderThis heavy carries the same advanced passive system as the ARES, plus the capability of being used as a mobile GPS type system. This class has very advanced mapping equipment and carries TRACER for advanced communications with all ARES class vessels. TRACER also extends the effective range of the base star’s passive systems as well. This ship is devoid of weapons and does carry dual FTL drives .
Missile Heavy RaiderThis heavy is a reconnaissance raider with an attached box missile launcher mounted to an overhead boom. The total number of missiles varies with the number of layers to the box launcher system (maximum of 4 layers), but is always 8 units wide. This missile system is capable of deploying all know types of missiles.
Boarding Heavy RaiderThis heavy has the advanced Banshee FTL system that allows for jumps directly into large spaces on the target vessel to deploy the boarding party without having to dock with the target vessel. It carries Chopham armor to reduce the chance of extensive damage before the boarding party can be deployed. It also has 4x 6 barrel 7.62mm Gatling guns to gain fire superiority while deploying the boarding party.
Gun Platform Heavy Raider Since all these classes of Heavy Raiders are based upon the Reconnaissance Heavy Raider, they all can be configured with mix-matched weapons systems; ie a missile raider can mount GAUSS cannons and have boarding capability while mapping and doing reconnoiters.
CREW ALL crew, including Centurions and Raiders have free will. Modified centurions take up support positions; the new centurions and raiders contain internal nanobots that repair daily stress as they recharge, that way they are factory fresh at the next duty cycle. All command level positions are crewed by humanoids and humans. The crew must be ID-chipped, a modified RFID system, and scanned by the hybrids in order to test their commitment and loyalty. Those trying to betray will be paralyzed by the chip system.
This RFID system also is tied into the internal security system to prevent unauthorized access to restricted areas and to deploy the repel borders defensive systems installed in every compartment.
Heavy boarding party CenturionThis is an up armored variant of the MkII centurion that deploys Chopham armor capable of stopping .50 BMG SLAP ammunition at point blank range. It also fields the Bounce Pack, which is the Banshee FTL drive in backpack form, allowing these centurions the capability of boarding vessels without actually docking with the vessel.
These centurions also can augment the repel boarders systems deployed in the ******** class or act as repel boarders forces on any vessel in the fleet as necessary.
CREW TOTALS: 15000 humanoids/humans
500-7500 centurions/modified centurions (trained for professions)
10-15000 civilians .
PROPULSION The core power of the basestar is the hydronium imploder, round with a layered section of highly magnetic gyroscopes (made out of a dense magnetic ore that can handle high energy plasma) spinning around magnetic field (hydronium/hydrogen-core) that shrinks, when the core cannot take the external pressure anymore, the fields reset to standard and the power is routed out via conduits (implosion/explosion). Smaller subsystems use a similar design, only not hydronium but trash from the ship, it is put into the compacters, that in turn drop the trash bundles into a feeder system for power generation, any matter (i.e. asteroids can be used as the source of power). The new SLD drive is the VASIMR system that is currently being developed at the Johnson Space Center. It uses the plasma created from a fusion reactor, or in our case the hydronium imploder, controlled by magnetic fields to avoid melting of the venting channel, to vent plasma directly into space; similar in concept to the Star Trek impulse engines. Preliminary testing on the War Hammer’s arms is highly promising, but creates a horrific thermal signature as expected.
COMMUNICATIONTransponders (of data) with FLT drive: send any info (i.e. about enemy activity) to the base star, this way humans and cylons (raiders or centurions) do not have to be sent on patrols, to avoid interception of data by the enemy the transponders are sent to a rendezvous point from which data is downloaded. Main communications are of a highly advanced spread spectrum type with advanced encryption. There is also an FTL based prototype being tested, also of the spread spectrum type.
The new TRACER system uses the same FTL communications link as the cylon resurrection system with the exception that the signal is now an encrypted spread spectrum for security. This allows for all hybrids to always be in contact with all other hybrids at all times. Certain members of the crew, such as Cogreeddie, have had their uplinks modified to tie into TRACER for increased tactical capabilities, allowing these persons to know what all hybrids are doing at all times at any range.
SENSORSCarries the standard DRADIS package and a new passive prototype being developed to detect stealth technologies.
This new system is computer controlled and uses multiple sensor arrays in all known EM bands to look for the presence of anomalies created by unnatural sources, (ie thermals from engines and pilots, stray communications, magnetic signatures, ect) It effectively creates a sphere in the scan area and amplifies all signatures in that field and attenuates all other signals using advanced mathematic algorithms. Not entirely reliable, it offers the best chance of actually detecting stealth ships without the use of an “active” system. Also testing a new active system using spread spectrum technology with pseudorandom code encryption which should allow for an active system without a reasonable chance of anyone else “hearing” the transmission; should be at most an increase in background noise if it is even heard at all. It also features the almost impossible chance of ever being jammed via electronic warfare methods.
COUNTERMEASURESThis class deploys all standard ECM systems to disrupt DRADIS and other standard detection systems to include UV and IR. The ship also employs a policy of emission controls, called EMCON, that secures various EM transmitters such as DRADIS, both standard and secure communications, and any other types of EM devices. The various levels of EMCON determine which pieces of equipment needs to be secure
EMCON1 = all radiating equipment, total silence
EMCON2 = all non spread spectrum secure type devices
EMCON3 = all medium range fire control type detection systems/communications
EMCON4 = all long range/high power EM devices
EMCON5 = normal sailing; no restrictions
WEAPONSThe Banshee missile: the missile has a multi-pack warhead with self arming, self guiding system, with A.I. that can tell friend from foe and is able to pick the best target. Some of the missiles have miniaturized short range FTL drives. The missile is equipped with a warhead (a mini nuke, conventional high explosives with termite/hydrogen), the target is selected and the missile is launched, after it clears its launch tube, the FTL activates and jumps inside the target (i.e. a battlestar), once inside it detonates its warhead. The attack can be planned as the so-called ‘Wagon Wheel’, all separate gun platforms fire off a boatload of this type of missile, then multiple FTL missiles appear inside the target and explode. A non-lethal missile can be used as well, containing a paralyzing gas.
Banshee Mk II this variant of the banshee employs the same hybrid type controller that pilots the standard Raider. It also employs all the current sensory systems in miniature to assist in target acquisition and evasion of countermeasures. These missiles are typically armed with strategic warheads due to the added complexity. The FTL drives on these missiles are long range Tactical type for both range and minimal reset times between spools.
Stealth minescans for the known energy signatures in the fleet, (i.e. battlestar) when the signature is detected, a deguasing bomb explodes and scrambles magnetic devices.
Boruta (read ‘borootah) a decoy that leads other ships into danger, like asteroid field. The decoy sends a distress signal, which once picked up messes with the FLT drive and sends the ship into a dangerous area (i.e. inside a sun/black hole/planet).
The Mad Hatter a giant emp bomb, a shaped charge- depending on what level the warhead is set on, the targets electronics become inoperative for 1about 5 minutes, then the Mad Hatter gets launched.
The Big Flash Banga missile the size of a standard nuke that briefly blinds any hostiles and renders sensors/ scanners inoperative for a while, giving plenty of time to jump away.
GAUSS Cannona truly terrifying weapon, this is an upsized and greatly upgraded version of a rail gun that uses magnetic fields to throw combination ferrite projectiles at insanely high velocities. It is the ultimate in kinetic energy weapons believed to be able to shoot completely through any vessel causing catastrophic damage. The ARES class mounts two types of GAUSS cannons; the 500mm/2500cal spinal type which is built into the keel of the arms, and the open turreted 200mm/200cal
This weapon is also capable of firing modified AAA shells, although at a reduced muzzle velocity to reduce the chance of the magnetic drive setting off the shell and with reduced effect due to the need of the ferrite outer shell needed for the drive system. The actual AAA shell is 100mm, thus has half of the effect of the 200mm LPDP guns, but gains the advantage of having a very substantial increase in velocity in reference to the LPDP guns, can have the shell at max range (3,000km) in two seconds instead of 25 minutes.
The newest shell is nuclear. It uses a plunger system to implode the fissile materials; the plunger being activated by the deceleration caused by impact. The problem with this system is that it has the tendency to detonate after passing through the target. Since this device relies on kinetic energy to force the detonation, the fissile materials must be close to critical mass to start with, making these shells high yield fissile devices.
Ship to Ship Missiles:Carries the standard mix of ship to ship missiles with the addition of a new high speed kinetic energy type. The missiles are arranged in two 1,200 unit Vertical Launch Systems located in the center area outboard on each arm. There are six dual rail missile launchers also mounted in the central area of each arm and five in the center of the base section. Each of these launchers are fed by 50 missile rotary magazines in the arms and 100 missile rotary magazines in the base sections located underneath the launcher proper. The rotary magazine has the ability of allowing the crew to change out the missile load out much more quickly that the VLS and is used primarily for specialty type missiles.
Anti-fighter/missile missile systemThis system is also a VLS system that deploys solely Kinetic Energy Interceptor missiles (KEM) designed to defeat inbound fighters and/or missiles [T.H.A.A.D. missile based]. It uses the force of impact from its exceptionally high velocity to disintegrate its target. Guidance is a passive home tied into the main tracking systems of the base star which give this missile exceptional range and accuracy. The system deploys two VLS systems with 5,000 missiles per system.
OTHER TECHNOLOGIESOsirisAn experimental defensive system designed to prevent FTL jumps into and immediately around any vessel equipped with the system. Primarily a defense to the Banshee missile, it can also be used to thwart FTL equipped boarding parties. The system has four modes of operation
Re-DirectThis mode creates a second FTL wormhole that will direct the incoming object to another location, preferably several km away from the target location
Auto-jumpThis option will automatically jump the target ship to another location to avoid the incoming object, although there is a fair chance that the incoming object will jump with the target ship.
Reverse auto jumpThis variant relies on the use of a hand held transponder to not only identify the terminal end of the wormhole, but also to trigger via FTL communications the activation of the system to create the wormhole allowing the person/item to be FTL’d to the origin of the wormhole.
Dampening fieldThis option literally creates a reverse polarity energy field that is believed capable of collapsing the terminal portal of the wormhole, thus preventing the jump altogether.
Bounce PackThis is effectively the Banshee FTL drive in a backpack form to allow for centurions the ability to FTL jump onto a target vessel for boarding purposes.
Tactical FTL Jump DriveThis is a Banshee FTL set up for short jumps, out to about 10km, to allow for quick tactical repositioning.
EXCALIBREThis system is nothing more than a guidance system for GAUSS and LPDP projectiles. It employs the same passive home/active home/home on jam systems that the fire and forget missiles use, plus can be guided by the ship’s advanced navigation/mapping coordinate system. This feature allows for extremely long range engagements so long as the locations of both the ship and the target are known. Accuracy is +/- 5m well in excess of 1 million kilometers. Comm links are via TRACER to ensure speed of updates.
Firespawn missileThe Firespawn missile is a 2.75” rocket that uses the same tech as the KEM missile except it has a nuclear warhead of 50 ton yield. It uses a small sphere of Plutonium set up in a tungsten plunger system that is activated upon an impact with a hard object, such as a battlestar’s hull. The combination of kinetic energy of impact and the low yield nuclear warhead should be sufficient to shatter any outer hull save for the most advanced armor hulls such as CHOPHAM. These missiles are designed to be fired in volleys, and the standard launchers are 5 unit, 7 unit, and 19 unit. Typical deployment is from fighters and small attack craft.
Hellspawn missileHellspawn missiles are effectively 5” variants of Firespawn missiles that have 500 ton yield warheads. They are also fighter/small craft deployed in 5,7, and 19 unit launchers.
