The Continent of Akebulan, situated just south of the Continent of Corinth, is the second largest continent on the planet behind Corinth. Quarantined and restricted for over two thousand years, since the Great Calamity, the population has been unchecked and sequestered. No person from outside the continent has stepped foot there but mercenaries from the continent have been utilized by the central Terran government for various operations against the rebel factions on Corinth and elsewhere. The population is estimated at close to one billion people. The continent is covered in a very dense forest ranging from decidious trees in the far north to lush tropical forest all the way to the south where vast fertile valleys make up the lanscape.

Hidden from view by both DRADIS and aerial observations due to the thick under growth of vegetation, the continent has enjoyed obscurity for well over two thousand years. Quarantined and restricted ever since the Great War over tow thousand years ago, the continent has enjoyed both peace and prosperity, free from the wars and strife of the rest of the planet. The central government, headquartered in the soouthern region, has managed to keep the continent free from outside influence and interference, mostly due to the belief of the rest of the planet that the virus that wiped out over three quarters of the population over two thousand years ago is still present. Not sicne the Great War has any outsiders stepped foot on the continent. That is about to change.

J had been sitting patiently near the river, wondering if and when someone would come looking for him and the others. From across the sea, the smoke was still rising from the remains of the Marine Base South. Hundreds of Marines and Fleet personnel had held off the advancing Cylons for as long as they could, giving J and those few marines with him a chance to escape to the south. They had made contact with someone on that continent, someone who claimed to be from the government down there. There was no way to know for certain who that person was or if they really were from the government. At this point, it really didn't make much difference. The Cylons were stepping up their attacks on the planet, in particular in the Southern Hemisphere. Of course, the Fleet and the Terrans were making it as difficult as possible. J wondered just how much longer the Cavils would sit by and watch as the Colonial Fleet slowly but surely decimated the Cylon fleet. It really was a matter of time before the Cavils ordered nukes to be used against the planet. J stood up, looking to the east. he could make out the skyline of what was left of New Caprica City, the city the Colonials and Cylons had constructed close to 16 years ago when they first came across this planet. Those were happier times, a time in which peace was thought to be possible. Of course, there really was no chance of there being peace between humans and Cylons, not after over 50 billion humans were killed.
J had heard the distinctive sound of raiders and heavy raiders a few hours earlier. They had come in form the north and had landed just south of the city. Although the Cylons had nuked the city just after the Colonials had abandoned it years ago, the radiation levels had dropped dramatically, so much so to the point that the city could be inhabited again. Of course, J himself had declared the city permanently off limits when the Fleet had returned to this planet years ago, having left the place when the fragile peace between humans and Cylons had fallen apart. Fortunately, the Cylons had used nuclear weapons designed to not contaminate an area for thousands of years, a weapon akin to a neutron bomb where the humans and animals in the regions would be killed, there would be minimal damage to buildings and infrastructure and in a few weeks or months, the area could be re-occupied. It had been a number of years since the Cylons bombed the city but there was to be no re-occupying the city, not as long as J had anything to say about it. Turning around to a young Lieutenant, J made a comment.
"You know, the city does look beautiful from here. If we don't get picked up soon, we may just have to head that way."
"Are you sure about that Mr. President? I mean, there is a rather large force of Cylons over there somewhere. We all heard the aircraft heading that way hours ago."
"Yeah, that does pose a problem. We may have to head to the Marine observation post to the west of the city, if they're still there."
"Last word Sir was they were but that was a few days ago. When is the party from this continent supposed to arrive?"
"Well, that's a good question LT and since our comm is down, we have no way to even attempt to contact anyone, even our own people, which is why we may have to head out and go across the river to the observation post and see if there is anything there we can use to contact someone, anyone. For now though, we'll sit tight."
"Well, we better do something soon Sir, our rations are getting dangerously low. That boat ride across the sea was a rough one and we lost over half our supplies."
"Yes, along with several of our people. This isn't exactly how I planned on going out, you know?"
J knew someone would eventually find them based upon their last transmission. When was the bigger question.

Looking to the northwest, J could see the smoke rising from where the Marine Base South had been. This far south he could no longer see the smoke of the burning capital, or what was left of it. The Cylons had taken a beating there but in the process, they had managed to bomb most of the city. The fires had raged because there was no water pressure and there weren't enough trained personnel to combat the thousands of fires throughout the city. Standing here next to the river, J could barely see the city skyline of New Caprica City, abandoned now for almost ten years. If they could cross the river, they could make their way to the Marine outpost west of the city. There would be supplies plus around fifty or so Marines and Fleet personnel stationed there, if the Cylons hadn't destroyed the place yet. J had watched as several heavy raiders had flown in from the southeast and made their way to the city. By now, the radiation would have dissipated fully. When the Cylons had nuked the palce, they had used low-yield warheads. Turning to the sound of foot steps coming up from behind him, J smiled at the young Marine Lieutenant.
"Looks as if the Cylons have an interest in New Caprica City."
"Yeah, I was watching them fly in low. Looked as if one of them had been hit from the smoke it was trailing."
"Wonder when our friends from this place are going to arrive? We've no shelter and limited supplies. We can try to cross the river and make our way to the outpost but that's still going to take a day or two to get there. We have to meet with this government down here but we can't stay out in the open for too much longer, we're sitting ducks here."
"Perhaps if a snmall team made it's way over and came back with help. They have vehicles there, right?"
"They're supposed to but if the Cylons hit them, then it'll be a wasted trip."
Suddenly, the sounds of engines from above them cam sounding across the open area. Yelling to the rest of the party, J dropped low into the grass, hoping to hide himself from whoever it was coming towards them. WIthin seconds, three unfamiliar craft came screaming overhead. They weren't raiders or any type of cylon craft and they weren't colonial or terran craft either. The three craft circled around then came in low and landed about fifty meters from their position. J stayed low until the sound of the engines died down and were almost completely quiet. J watched as a hatch opened and observed as several uniformed individuals stepped out. Was this their welcoming committee?

Marla stepped out into the sunlight, looking around the area. Turning to the Captain next to her she remarked.
"I know I saw someone down here. What the hell?"

Marla knew she hadn't imagined seeing figures on the surface. The craft belonging to Federal defense forces had set down in the clearing so as to not become targets for the ever increasing raiders. The air defense batteries that ringed the continent had been very successful at taking down almost all of the raiders but enoough had managed to over fly the continent that surely by now, the Cylons were aware of how populated the place was.
Marla was not thrilled to be here, especially when there were better jobs she could be performing at this moment. Still, she did not question her orders sending her here. She had the distinction of being the first outsider to step foot on Akebulan soil in a little over two thousand years. Before she could say anything to the people with her, the sounds of incoming raiders filled the sky. Looking to her left, she pointed and yelled.
"LOOK! Incomning, take cover, NOW!"
The sounds of impacting rounds filled her ears, diving just as they came tearing into the parked aircraft. All three exploded as rounds found the fuel tanks. Marla was hit by a piece of debris, nocking her semi-unconscious.

J was about to stand up when he heard the distinctive sound of raiders coming towards their position. Hugging the ground, he looked up and watched as a formation of seven raiders, followed by seven heavy raiders, came in low and fast, their rounds tearing into the ground and the parked raptors several hundred meters away. The resulting explosions deafened his ears and the blast from the explosions blew across the grass and up and over him and the others. A young Marine made the mistake of standing up, shrapnel tearing into his body, the flesh and blood flying in all directions. J watched as several of the people frmo the raptors also went down. One of them he recognized. Within seconds, the enemy craft were gone, having crossed the river behind them. He knew they were heading towards New Caprica City and he knew why. Once it was clear, J and several of the others with him got up and rushed towards the burning raptors. Kneeling at the woman, he could see she was injured, but alive. She looked up at him and smiled.
"Mr. President, you're a hard person to find."
Before J could reply, the woman passed out. J looked over at one of the other Marines and yelled out to her.
"Get over here with that med pack!"
The Marine rushed over and opened the med pack, immediately getting to work on the womans wounds. The Marine Lieutenant rushed over to help, looking at J.
"Who is she Sir?"
"Our best hope of getting out of here alive, so we have to make sure she stays that way as well."

J stood over the Marine as she worked on Marla while at the same time looing around the area. It had been several hours since the Raptors had launched and detonated several nuclear missiles in the atmosphere above New Caprica City, the EMP wiping out all electronics for hundreds, if not thousands, of kilometers around. The reason was to destroy the magnetic tapes and hard drives the Cylons had located deep underground at the old government center, left there years ago when the Colonials left this planet after the truce fell apart with the Cylons. That was the time when Skulbaka was President of the Colonials, a time of mixed emotions. J had missed those times but was glad they were gone too. For now though, their bigger problem was no communications with the Fleet. J wondered just how widespread the EMP blast was though. He could tell the detonations were higher in the atmosphere than they should have been, causing him to wonder just how much the EMP had knocked out across the area, or the planet for that matter. They needed to get Marla and the other wounded to a hospital if they were to save them but with no way to contact anyone, there was a good chance the wounded would not survive.

Post by Maj. Alicia Grover, CMC (Ret) on May 26, 2016 18:53:06 GMT -6
Alicia and what was left of her marines, three undred and twenty-seven of them to be exact out of over nine hundred, had finally made their way to the forbidden continent as it was known up north. The Cylons had torn into the marines at the Marine Base South, killing thousands of them as they tried to make a last stand and give the President and his team a chance to escape and make it across the sea to the continent. Alicia had never been there but had been briefed on the place several times. Her people were tired and hungry, the trip overland was ardurous and had taken it's toll on her people. She could see smoke in the distance, nothing serious, more like a campfire. She held her hand up to tell her people to halt. Taking the binoculars out of the case, she looked off towards the smoke. Speaking to the Captain next to her, she spoke.
"Well, there's our target. Seems like there are some wounded, wait, there, off to the left of the raptors, yes, I see him! Captain, get a team of twenty or so and get over there, pronto. The President is alive and well and there are only a few marines there from what I can tell."
"Yes Major, at once. You marines, lock and load and form on my six, we move out now."
"Captain, tell the President the rest of us will follow shortly, we gotta wait for the rest to catch up to us."
"Yes ma'am. Marines, move out!"

It's been several weeks now since the cylon attack on the Terran system has taken place. Although there are still pockets of resistance from the Cylons and hybrids who had landed on the surface, the majority of combat operations are over and the re-construction has begun in earnest, both on and off the planet. The Fleet Shipyard, to include the Auxilliary Shipyard, has also begun not only repairs to their facilities but to the Fleet ships that survived the attack. The two medium sized civilian shipyards did not fare so well but are able to accept very small craft for limited repairs. Drexl Industries, with their very large mobile shipyard have now returned to the Terran system, having taken up staion not far from the Fleet Station in orbit with Terra. The famed Drex Star however remains in a secret location, repairing damage to her propulsion and main weapons systems.
The President has returned to the Capital and is in the process of re-forming his Cabinet. The reconstruction of the capital is underway but the industrial area to the north of the city has been deemed a complete loss. The planetary shipyards managed to survive but the workforce has been decimated. The Ministry of Labor has put out an emergency call for any and all qualified welders, plumbers, electricians, carpenters and all other skilled trades to report to the nearest repair facility or factory for assignment. The same order has also been issued throughout the civilian fleet as workers are needed to replace those killed or injured during the Cylon attack.
A complete listing of ships destroyed or damaged will be sent tot the Fleet shortly, as will those cities that were hit by nuclear devices by the Cylons.
