I've been working on this recently and well its a work in progress but its going on a good premise...Earth has its first real Golden Age from 2020 to 2050 till we began to colonize on Mars and Titan, we attracted the attention of a race that does nothing but wipes out primitive races to expand its Empire. All the governments on Earth knew the end was coming so they setup a series of precautions encase the end was to come...
Chapter One
Mankind is only limited by its imagination yet our limitations are few if non…
A statement said so often in so many references many didn’t think it would be possible. Mankind, a species that dragged themselves out of Africa, only to be the most resourceful construction of life created on Earth is well gone. The only downfall is their arrogance, arrogance that nothing was going to end their miserable existence yet their lust of war has brought them stumbling down. World Governments fell one by one, resistance crumbled, fleets destroyed and their wills destroyed...this wasn’t the power of a simple human war or the use of weapons of mass destruction but of the fear of alien life.
The La’Tarin, a species that has raced across the stars for millions of years extinguishing life from primitive planets that are well within their domain. Earth was just another planet with primitives that didn’t stand a chance against them, millions of years of evolution only to be destroyed due to the limitations of man not even their religion could save them. Some did see this coming, the various governments of the world knew one day they would fall and when they did there would be the need of vengeance for the fall of man. Hidden under the ice of Siberia, to hide from the best of scanners and to ensure the survival, laid twenty of the best that Earth could set aside; the best soldiers from five of Earth’s top nations. Each man and woman were selected to not just get vengeance upon a dead species but also restart a species that was wiped out for all the wrong reasons.
Deep underground, a light flashed as a computer finally came online, thousands of years of sleeping in deep cryo to preserve them as well as keep them from aging to ensure the plan were to be successful. Activating the defrosting cycle, the air infiltration system began producing fresh oxygen followed by the lighting as the massive food stores began defrosting. Waking up first, Ivan, a Russian Spectra climbed out of his bed as he fell onto his ass; waking up his legs as he got back up. Picking up his robe, it was odd that the United Nations had marked them all as Spectras since there is no governments anymore thus they all are nothing more than Spectras. Walking over to the computer, Ivan, stood at six feet with a more than well built body but still had a few of his tattoos from when he fought in the war; each one marking the death of a comrade and the death of a La’Tarin. He led a battalion against them in Germany after the Germans failed to hold them, managed to kill thousands but at a heavy cost which in the end they lost not just Germany but the surrounding countries. Ivan, in fact, volunteered for this assignment since the enemy took everything from him. Pulling a tablet from bin next to the computer, the tablet contained all the temperature readings and surface activity for the last decade; recon reports basically for his analysis.
Waking up a few minutes later, Ethan, a former United States Special Forces servicemen who much like Ivan, fought against the La’Tarin but fought in Alaska while civilians rushed to the awaiting shuttles. For the United States, the government was finally trying to get people to Mars or the Luna bases, however, the La’Tarin saw through this tactic and destroyed all attempt to evacuate the millions of people. Ethan was pulled from a lottery and rushed to Siberia like the other American teammates, unknown to him, before the fall of Washington DC; the last of the American military made their last stand for the city. Picking up the small med pack hanging off the side of the pod, Ethan self injected protein sequences to wake up the muscles in his body before stepping down out of the bed; spotting Ivan was already walking around and doing his homework about the surface. Born in New York, Ethan had a bit of Irish in him that allowed him to survive on the streets but entered the Navy once he had the chance; completed several tours before applying himself to the SEAL unit. The attack happened during his SEAL training and came out of the gates fighting with the Siege of Detroit which was the first victory of the early days of the war with the La’Tarin but every battle since then led to defeat. At age thirty-two, Ethan and Ivan are the same age and have nearly the same outlook which is this vengeance concept can’t be on Earth but maybe just maybe there are other people out there that hate the La’Tarin as well thus means there must be a fighting force out there.
Walking into the pantry, he slipped on his Spectra t-shirt before grabbing a fresh banana as well as a cup of coffee followed by a tablet to read an old newspaper since Ivan was already reading the computer analysis. Taking a seat on the cushioned bench, he set everything down on the stainless steel table, still a bit surprised that everything seemed to work since it felt like yesterday they were put in the pods yet its been close to a thousand years. So much of the world has changed, old cities had been worn down by rain, snow and wind which meant soon as they came out of the cover that there wouldn't be much left on the surface.
Yet another pod opened seconds later but it had four teammates inside, all from the British Commandos, they wanted to ensure that everyone would survive this difficult process of cryo sleep. Each member of the Commandos fought not just for Queen and country but also attempted to fight with the Germans and in the end failed much like everyone else. Oliver, the former leader of the Commandos, was born in England and signed up right away which meant the Commandos was his life; he alone had taken down hundreds of La’Tarin while holding Buckingham Palace but in the end the Queen was still slaughtered. He personally watched London fall which made the idea of cryo sleep impossible for him since he was already mentally set to die with his unit yet was spared that, on the other hand, he could get vengeance for the fallen this way around. His second in command, Samuel, was much like Oliver except he never met the man till before they were put in the pods. Samuel had been with the American/British Task Force in an attempt to keep France from falling, fighting for every yard while the French tried to hold onto Paris the entire time. In the end, the La’Tarin burned all of France, destroying the entire country in a single blast with half of the entire Task Force which then went to Russia’s aid to hold onto Moscow. He volunteered for this little project, unlike Oliver, he lost his family in London and all he could do is to avenge their deaths. Demolitions expert, Lily, she knew everything about explosives but unlike everyone else wasn't in the war fighting, she had to assist in the wiring of the English Channel tunnel to ensure not just that nothing or no one would ever get through but she also aided in the construction of this bunker so automatically she was added to the cryo team. Finally, they’re tech expert, Elizabeth woke up and a bit surprised that she would wake up here since she help build not just the computer which maintained the bunker but the systems that seem to be working perfectly now a thousand years after being constructed. The Swiss actually came up with this crazy idea and it was her task to make it come true, it was quite difficult to hide the construction from the La’Tarin and even now it appeared this bunker has gone unnoticed.
Getting up out of the rack, she walked over to the other pods which were still in the defrosting process as she picked up a tablet to read up on climate readings for the past decade much like Ivan was doing. Walking into the bathroom, she took a fresh pair of fatigues in with her which had the Spectra Logo; as well as a bit of Latin which they all knew too well. De vindicta videtur in astra favillam terram, a quote the UN gave to this specially designed unit before finally falling to the La’Tarin attack force which wiped out New York City.
Getting up as well, Oliver did the same as Ethan in the aspects of getting a bite to eat before reading an old paper from before the war; knowing one day that everything old will be new again to man.
While everyone relaxed, Ethan’s squad began waking with Tom who was a Green Beret before entering cryo sleep and must like Ethan he was picked out of a lottery. Tom successfully led the Siege of Hawaii that led to hundreds of people getting out and gave the navy a fighting chance against the enemy by taking out several troop ships and cruisers before returning to the West Coast to defend once more. Tom lost a good portion of his squad in Hawaii and considered a hero for single handing holding off Pearl from thousands of La’Tarin invaders before taking a gunship back to the mainland. Unlike the others, Tom figured he would never wake up so chose to sleep in the nude just encase he were to die he didn't want let down the angels of heaven. Slipping on his robe, he opened the foot locker underneath his cryo pod for his black fatigues and his Beret before heading off into the shower; ready to get this cryo film off of his skin.
With Tom in the shower, Aiden and Ava woke up right next to each other and both were once part of the Delta’s who towards the end had joined the Russians in holding onto China till the La’Tarin’s leveled all of China. Husband and wife, they kept their marriage secret to ensure they weren't treated special but in the end they both volunteered; they were ready to keep fighting but not die in Washington DC with everyone else. Slipping into cryo sleep, they both asked to be next to each other and wired into the computer to ensure that their pods would never crash cause of human error. Getting up, they both went to sleep in forest camos instead of the skin suit which would for some odd reason would help the computer help read their body signals. Getting up, Aiden took a deep breath of the pure oxygen before dropping down to see Ethan reading up with food on the table; gathering some food before taking a seat as well. Ava on the other hand, waited till Lily got out of the shower before being brought up to speed on the situation outside thus making a plan once everyone was awake and set to go.
A few hours later, the Australians began to wake up with Guy and Hugh first who were the top snipers in the Australian military and during the war held onto Sydney Harbor for days on end while on board a sinking carrier. They were brothers who joined at the same time and excelled to the ranks of Captain but at the time of the war, the Australians were cut short of manpower which meant Australia asked for tons of help from the United States and the United Kingdom who both were short on help. Finally forced to leave after the fall of Sydney, both Guy and Hugh served in Africa, China, India, Russia and finally Canada before joining the Retribution Project which led to this. Both the only snipers to use La’Tarin weapons against them with specializations in just about every weapon and given high marks for doing tasks that most armies couldn't accomplish. Natalie and Ellie woke up minutes later, both high marks for being a stand alone army, they both received the highest honors for assisting in the fight for New York in an attempt to keep the United Nations alive but in the end the enemy took the city. Much like Guy and Hugh, they went around the world to hold key locations while the civilians evacuated and halted the enemy advance but in the end it was too much.
Ivan’s team began waking up, Boris, a man who was once called a giant for standing at seven feet, he was the only Russian who had balls to fight the enemy hand-to-hand; taking them out much like he would anything else that challenged him. Nick named the tank, he would wear bulks of armor and lead the forces into battle with no cover for himself; often accompanies with a S.A.W, he wiped out entire La’Tarin Divisions. Chosen for the Retribution Project, the world leaders knew that Boris could use his skills and need to revenge the fallen onto the enemy once more and would be the true definition of revenge. Viktor, on the other hand, is amongst Russia’s top snipers and often saw the actions of Guy and Hugh as nearly godly while he alone held off waves in Moscow before being ordered into the project following the fall of Moscow. Viktor had a list of skills that extended his range to Demolitions as well as a pilot which was useful before the war but not so much during it. He knew one of the last things that was going to be done was to add a ship to this little bunker which meant he had to read up on it otherwise he would have to learn how to fly an enemy ship. Finally, Denis, who despite the rest of the team was their version of a tech expert and amongst one of the few that could operate the portable turrets which helped in the Siege of Hong Kong; he in turn was asked to work on the bunker since it would need top line security if it was ever to be discovered as aid to the sleeping soldiers. Grabbing a tablet from the drawer, he stayed close to his pod while he read up on security reports to see if anyone had bothered to search for them; knowing that once they emerge that the enemy would be hunting them which was perfect since they were hunting the enemy as well.
The last to wake and well the last of their nation, the Chinese sent their best to join this tight knit group then again the Chinese were doing one thing which was defending their borders against the enemy. The leader of the rag tag Chinese team, Cheng, was the son of the Chinese top General who died in Hong Kong and Cheng had lost companies in an attempt to retake Hong Kong. Joining the project, Cheng knew he was here for a China that would never rise again but then again this was for the sum of all mankind who were wiped out before their time. Lien, China’s elite fighter pilot and top Demolitions expert, she personally used the Great Wall to their advantage by destroying it with millions of pounds of explosives which wiped out several enemy capital ships and gave them a few months of breathing room. Jin, once a private guard to the Chinese Ambassador, he was once part of the military but fought with many others to hold off the slaughter in the UN before being defeated but he managed to get out with the American force. Officially part of the United States, Jin insists on fighting for China even though it was wiped out but in the end so will the La’ Tarin will be non-exist as well. Finally Sheng, she was amongst the Secret Service for the President and was around when the enemy slaughtered him at Fort Washington as well as thousands of troops and bulk of the Air Force. In a moment of panic, the Congress recalled everyone for their own protection.
Switching the newspaper to the inventory list, Ethan noticed they were cut short a few rides which meant they would be walking most of the time. Drinking his coffee, he did notice that they were left some commodity items which would help in the long run as he cleared his throat; “Have some coffee and a bit to eat, me and Ivan were briefed before put in this bunker thus we’re going to brief you all on the plan. We went to sleep in the year 2052 and its now 3052, we do know the colonies on Mars and Titan were being built when we were put under so we can only hope they survived but it’ll take more than a few million humans to face our enemy once more,” nudging Ivan to take over.
Getting up, Ivan cleared his throat to speak in his best English with a strong Russian dialect; “Our superiors informed us this unit will have a major responsibility to get revenge for the fallen but we can’t do this alone. During our struggle, we heard of other species fighting the La’Tarin which means we can set up relationships and bring our enemy down in a combined effort. Before we leave, we have a compound that will make us invisible to La’Tarin sensors as well as a few bricks of gold and diamonds, if there is an economy out there we know nothing about it thus can only hope it runs the same as our old one. We've all been picked because we’re the best so with that said, get ready to depart in six hours, may god be on our side.”
Getting up Guy and Hugh both drank down their coffee before grabbing urban camouflage fatigues as they headed into opposite restroom to get a shower and change while Natalie and Elle began packing up their packs with MREs. Allowing the warm water wash over him, Guy could still remember the war yet there is no reason he shouldn't forget since for him it was yesterday that he was asked to go to sleep and promised one day they would get their revenge. Everything is based on a very human concept yet they also had excess the situation, keep a portion of their humanity, not everything was their enemy but what if they took the La’Tarin down only to find out there was a bigger bully out there.
Opening a nearby door, Ethan stepped in as the light began to power up, revealing little lockers with everyone’s individual weapons with spare magazines inside yet it wouldn't be enough against a major fire fight. Opening his locker, Ethan peered over his holsters which contained a pair of HK45’s which had a simple clipped on silencer with three spare magazines per pistol. A small med pack was clipped onto his holsters as well as empty slots for his rifle magazines and his survival knife which might be useful if it ever came to hand-to-hand combat. His light mesh vest hung up on the wall which had been filled with C4 plastic explosives, detonators as well as frag grenade slots. His specially built M4 sat on the wall with its scope and holo sights, suppressor connector, laser range finder and bi pod setup for when he switches out barrels. Changing into urban camos, he read up on the intelligence file that Ivan gave him and it appeared someone had set up a refueling station a few hundred miles south of them which gave them the option of hitching a ride off of this dead world. Slipping on his gear, he tucked his night vision goggles which were quite flexible into his vest before noticing his pack which had been filled with food was beside him thanks to one of the Australians. Clipping the rifle to his vest, he picked up his pack before clipping it to the back of his vest as he turned to Ivan; “I don’t say it too often but I hope there is a Plan B to all of this.”
Snickering, Ivan had already changed into matching camo as he too slipped on his vest and holsters while picking up his heavily modified AK47, clipping it onto his vest much like Ethan had done; “Everything we have is at stake and I hate to be blunt but we are Plan B.”
Hours of washing up and preparing by packing not just food but tablets and also translators, the rest of the Spectras went to load up on their weapons while Ethan and Ivan waited at the main hatch which led to the surface thanks to an elevator shaft about four hundred feet from the surface. The bunker had been pre-wired to detonate once they left it to ensure no one found out about the project and the survivors to aid them in keeping this element of stealth. Opening the hatch, Ethan started up the ladder which it was already going to be a long climb with Oliver behind him for close range support; reaching the top where a massive blast door laid and soon opened thanks to some hydraulic switches. Taking in the cold air, they climbed out on the gravel filled ground which was a result of the ice shifting which smoothed out the rocks; covering everyone by taking up positions beside the door till Lily made it to the surface with the detonator in hand.
Placing it on a five minute timer, they all began sprinting towards an old above ground bunker that was just barely hanging on after being weathered down; sliding into cover as the ground exploded. Getting up, Viktor knew the area really well, holding onto his M107 which had been rebuilt to fire a larger caliber round since its all about the one shot and one kill. The stones were mostly covered in moss, making them extremely slippery it also indicated that no one has been through this area on the ground which was perfect for them since they figured the La’Tarin would give up on looking for an elusive bunker. Reaching the treeline, Viktor glanced over his watch as he noticed it was twelve am and yet sunlight still which wasn’t odd in Russia but he was hoping to having some darkness to play to their advantage. Signaling everyone to take cover, he rushed up a tree to get a better vantage point, that refueling station was closer than they originally thought and well was unguarded. Spotting what looked like a cargo ship, they could easily sneak on board and hitch another ride from there wherever there may be.
Moving to the closest tree, Hugh provided cover while Tom and Aiden rushed towards the small ship before opening an access hatch; Tom climbed inside to secure the area before signaling the all clear. Rushing across Boris and Viktor rushed into the cargo hold with Tom followed by the Chinese team members who wasted no time to get inside; in no time everyone was in the cargo hold of this unknown ship waiting to leave. Finding makeshift cloaks which would help in hiding their gear, they sat quietly as the pilot took off unknown that he had twenty stowaways; jumping into hyperspace upon leaving the atmosphere.
Today is when the world will end.
