Walking into the outer office of the Fleet Admiral, Capt. Markus stands before the receptionist's desk, looking at her name plate.
"Miss Quirt, my name is Captain Joseph Markus and I am here to present my report to the Fleet Admiral, the report on my mission to the Colonies. I'm sure she will be interested to hear it."

Joseph sat there, thumbing through a recent edition of the Terran Times, bored to death and wondering how long the Fleet Admiral would have him wait. It didn't matter, this report had to be presented to her and he would wait as long as it took.

Ben looked over his shoulder as he heard the whiping of paper behind him. Noticing that its someone he recognized from the Civilian Fleet when he was Deputy Civilian Liaison.
"It's Captain Markus right?"
He turned around and stuck his hand out to shake the man's hand.
"So what kind of stuff are you up to now a days? I'm here for reassignment."
Remembering that his ship was in dry dock and was busted down to Commander.

Seeing the familiar face of Commander Trottle, Joseph got up from his seat and walked over to the man, sitting next to him.
"Commander Trottle, it's been a long time. Commander? I thought it was Commodore? Oh well, no need to bring that up. I understand your ship took it pretty hard and is in for an overhaul. Frakking Cylons. Anyways, I just returned from a mission to the Colonies and have my report to give to the Fleet Admiral. My guess is there's going to be another mission back there, seeing how many survivors there are. We could use an experienced Fleet Officer to assist us in dealing with the Fleet back home."
Joseph sat there, watching a pretty young Ensign walk by, then returning his attention to Commander Trottle.
"You know, there are over ten million survivors back home, and those are just the ones we know about. Rumor has it there are alot more, hidden in the mountains and even in bunkers underground. I know the Fleet is already sorting out ships to send back. The President will have the final say on this though and I'm sure the Terrans will be involved as well."

Looking at the captain, nodding as he talked to him. As he said "Commodore" he cringed at the thought of the demotion that he got.
"I would be glad to be one of the commanders that go back to the Colonies, it would be up to the Admiral on that. I think that we should approach her at the same time, Mark. What do you say?"
Ben noticed the ensign about the same time as the captain. Smiles as she walks back to the file room.

"You know Commander, I need an experienced Fleet officer to be the voice of the Fleet when we go back, since it's a guarantee we'll be going back. And yes, we should both approach the Admiral together. I noticed that young Ensign as well Commander! We should both be ashamed of ourselves, you know? She's young enough to be one of our daughters!"
Joseph sat there, getting impatient as the minutes ticked by. He still needed to get back to his ship to oversee the repairs and replenishment of the ships stores for the journey back to Caprica, but he had no choice but to wait and see the Fleet Admiral.
"You know, if this takes any longer, I think I'm gonna die of starvation. How about I go grab us some sandwiches or have someone go get us something to eat? You, Specialist, would yo be so kind as to go grab me and the Commander here something to eat, say a few sandwiches and something to wash them down? I'd do it myself, but I AM waiting to see the Fleet Admiral."
The young Specialist looked at Joseph and Commander Trottle, nodding in the affirmative.
"Yes sir, I would be more than happy to. Be back shortly."
Looking at Commander Trottle, Joseph smiled.
"Sometimes, being an SOB has its benefits."

Ben looked at the Captain and smiled.
"It has been awhile since I have eaten anything, last time ate anything was before I landed here. That was this morning. I understand that the Admiral is busy but come on, this is ridiculous. Sandwiches sounds great."
Trottle feels himself get flushed in the face at the fact that he was caught looking at the ensign. She was about his daughter's age. Little felt ashamed a little but he hadn't seen his ex in quite sometime.

Having eaten the sandwiches the Specialist brough to them, Joseph walked up to the receptionist, his patience having finally reached its end.
"EXCUSE ME! Would it be possible to see the Fleet Admiral BEFORE I start drawing my pension?"
The young woman looked up at Joseph, no expression on her face.
"Your name again, Sir?" The sound of the word "sir" being rather sarcastic.
"Captain Joseph Markus, with the report the Fleet Admiral is waiting for on my recent mission back to the Colonies."
"My Gods, Captain! I am soooo sorry. We completely forgot about you being here. The Fleet Admiral will see you immediately."
Joseph looked over at Commander Trottle, motioning him over. Smiling at the woman, Joseph calls to Ben.
"C'mon, Commander, we got a mission to plan with the Fleet."

"Finally!" he thought as he stood tossing his stuff in the trash as he walked by it. As they walked down the long hall to the admiral's office thoughts ran through his mind. As he was thinking one blurted out so Markus could hear, but barely.
"Do you think she will let me back on as a commander after what I did?"
Shaking his head getting the thought out or his head. He was a good leader and the Gods would not lead him down a path that they didn't deem fit.

Turning to look at Ben, Joseph stopped and smiled. "Listen Commander, the Fleet needs every experienced officer it can get its hands on for this mission and I need an experienced officer to take over the negotiations when we get back to the Colonies. Ten million, possibly more, survivors is a lot of people and from what I saw during the last trip back, there are a lot of them that wish to come here. The problem is the powers that be back home are trying to hold onto their power and rebuild, so they aren't to keen on us grabbing people that they need." Joseph would share more of their discoveries once they were in the Admiral's office. Right now, his main concern was getting the Admiral to approve Commander Trottle to accompany him back. Since the Commander's ship was in the shipyard for massive repairs, there was the good chance that he could take over one of the other Battlecruisers that would surely be going back with them. "I wouldn't worry about it too much Commander. Trust me, we're not just sending my ship back. Half the Fleet is going back from what I hear, and we're loading those ships with as many supplies as we can fit on them. Things are gonna be cramped and even with the new FTL's, it'll still take several months to get there. I sure hope everyone likes mil rats three times a day!" They finally reached the Admiral's office, her Executive Assistant smiling at them. "Hello there, Captain Markus and Commander Trottle to see the Fleet Admiral." "Yes gentlemen, right this way." As she opened the door, Joseph couldn't but help notice her blouse was open one button too many. He also caught a scent of her perfume, smiling as he entered the office. "Admiral Middleton, Captain Markus reporting back from my mission to the Colonies Sir, and I have Commander Ben Trottle with me." Pulling a piece of paper from his jacket pocket, Joseph looks at the latest order he had regarding the ships that would be accompanying them back to the Colonies. "Admiral, I was given this list of the ships that will be going back with us and I must say, it's rather impressive looking." "Very well, proceed."
They walked into the Admiral's office as the secretary told them to enter. He listened to Joseph speak on both of their behalfs when it came to his name Ben had to correct Markus.
"Captain, Trottle is my call sign, not my last name. The name's Commander Benjamin Little. I will be frank with you, Admiral. I would like to suggest that I lead the mission along with Captain Markus back to the Colonies. I'm the most experienced commander you have available with ship commanding experience."
Watching as the other commander walks in, leaves a piece of paper on Middleton's desk and walks out.

Post by FA Deana "Athena" Middleton on Feb 28, 2011 17:01:35 GMT -6
The whereabouts of Brigadier General Castorious near Gondawa didn't leave Admiral Middleton time to especially savor the soup & sandwich combination she'd gotten from the officers' mess. She was given the latest about civilian ship's captain Joseph Markus and his recon trip back to the 12 Colonies as she returned to her office.
No sooner had Deana gotten back that Jennetta, her Executive Assistant, peeked in to say that two men were waiting to see her: Markus and Commander Ben Little.
"It's never easy," she sighed to herself before waving to Jennetta to show them in.
After the two men entered the office, Markus presented Middleton with his report on what it would take to return to the 12 Colonies. His ship, CMS Marauder, had detected wireless transmissions from several underground military bunkers on Caprica. It would be a daunting task, to say the least, to discover if there were any survivors left from the Cylon attacks and occupation of a few years ago.
She had already given approval for the redeployment of Fleet reserve vessels for the task, but still had reservations. While there was some chance that there were survivors from the attacks, having those Fleet reserves out of circulation would be a problem... especially if the Cylons returned.
"Be thankful you're not getting skeleton crews, Captain Markus," Deana spoke in measured tones. "I still have to be cautious regarding such redirected use of ships, even if they are reserves. Cavil and his forces are unpredictable. I don't want to get caught unprepared for whatever that toaster has up his sleeve. Last thing I want is to see Terra's resources, let alone her people, become incinerated trash under his boot heels."
Joseph was in the middle of a response when Commander Jolene Narvu, the Chief of Fleet Supply, dropped off her office's report on the loading of supplies for his mission back to the Colonies. The admiral skimmed over its contents and asked Marauder's captain to continue.
"I understand your viewpoint. But I feel that if there's a chance that there are survivors there, we should try to reach them. That even includes reclaiming the artifacts from the Delphi Museum on Caprica.
"I want to have Commander Trottle with me as a liaison to the Fleet members we may encounter back there... "
Little interrupted. "Captain, Trottle is my call sign, not my last name. The name's Commander Benjamin Little."
He turned his attention to Deana. "I will be frank with you, Admiral. I'd like to suggest that I lead the mission along with Captain Markus back to the Colonies. I'm the most experienced commander you have available with military ship command experience."
Middleton regarded Little with deliberate calm. "Commander, I'm aware you were demoted after what happened to the Sovereign. I'm aware of your credentials but you're not getting off the hook completely. You and Captain Markus will share the lead of the mission; you dealing with the military there in the Colonies.
"If I hear of any problems or screwups during the mission, there'll be hell to pay. And I may not be as forgiving next time."

Rushing to the open door of the Fleet Admiral's office, Junior Lieutenant Jo Holden knocked, suddenly realizing there were people in the admiral's office.
"Admiral, sorry to bother you, but we just received a message from the Comm Center. They've picked up a signal from General Castorious' personal communicator. It appears the send button was being pushed, most likely hoping someone would pick up the transmission. Colonel Moore at the Comm Center has sent messages to the field units alerting them. Marine HQ has also been notified."
Saluting the admiral, the nervous officer turned and rushed back to the Comm Center, hoping she hadn't pissed the admiral off by interrupting her meeting.

Joseph was about to speak when a young Colonial officer walked into the room. He looked at the woman, then returned his gaze to the windows in front of him. He would be glad once this meeting was over so he could get back to his ship and oversee the replenishment operations. He also wanted to get Commander Little familiarized with the ship and crew and to go over a few things with him. Watching as the officer left the room, Joseph stood up and faced the Fleet Admiral.
"Admiral, I am grateful that I will not be making this trip with a skeleton crew. It's a good thing the Fleet has been accepting the locals into their numbers. From what I hear, these Terrans are fast learners and have become a valuable asset to the Fleet. Why, I even have a number of them on my ship."
Looking over at the commander, Joseph laughed a little.
"Sorry, Commander, I was using your call-sign and not your proper name. And, Commander, although a large part of the Fleet is accompanying us on this mission, this IS NOT a military invasion of the Colonies. However, I do require your skills as a Fleet Officer. I am in agreement with the admiral here, that we share this responsibility. Of course, you will be the lead when it comes to the military aspect of this mission."
Looking at the admiral and smiling, Joseph stood there.
"Admiral, if there are any screw-ups on this mission, paying Hades will be the least of our worries. We have to be careful on how we approach the survivors. My last mission there didn't go as smooth as I had hoped. There are a lot of animosities still being held back home. They feel as if they were abandoned, and rightly so. We all left them to their own devices, left them to fend for themselves, regardless of how we try to put a spin on the whole thing. It's going to take a lot to win their trust but there are some who want to leave the Colonies and come here."
Looking out the window, Joseph watched as the breeze blew the flowers outside lightly. His thoughts were turned to the valley where they landed on Caprica, how serene and beautiful the place was.
"Admiral, with your permission, I would like to return to my ship and oversee the replenishment operations. I would also like for the commander here to accompany me so we can go over some items now."
