Approximately 45 minutes prior to the destruction of Alpheus:
Joshua had left the Terran SpecOps Captain and had managed to make his way to a group of Marines and a handful of TDF personnel about 15 kilometers outside the city, to the northwest. Suddenly, there was a bright flash of light and then what sounded like thunder and freight trains colliding. Yelling to everyone to take cover, Joshua ducked into an abandoned building and immediately saw a doorway that was open and what appeared to be stairs going down. Rushing to the stairs, he saw the room below was somewhat lit so he rushed down the stairs. As soon as he was about half-way down, a rush of air and pressure hit him from behind, thrusting him downward, where he landed on the floor. momentarily shaken, he turned and looked back up the stairs, before getting up as fast as he could and to the farthest corner from the stairs. A young female Marine soon joined him followed by three TDF personnel and then four more Marines. What seemed like an eternity was actually only about 60 seconds before the noise died down and he could hear voices upstairs.
Standing up, he felt something trickling down his left side of his face. Rouching his left hand to his face, he looked and saw it was blood. One of the TDF soldiers pulled out a first aid kit and applied a gauze lad to it. Smiling at the young woman, he applied pressure while motioning them to head back upstairs. Once they were upstairs, he saw the rest of the Marines and TDF soldiers wrre coming inside, bringing a few wounded with them. Immediately, Joshua closed the front door to the building and went to a window to peer outside. he could see the unmistakable coud of a nuclear detonation. The winds were blowing to the east, so they were safe from the fallout, for now. Looking at the men and women standing and sitting around him, he spoke.
"Looks like we got out in time. Is everyone okay?" There were nods from everyone.
"Good, we'll sit here for a while until I figure out a plan to get us to safety. For now, let's et up an aid station in here, in case there are any other survivors or wounded that come this way."
From the size of the debris cloud, it was doubtful anyone had survived the explosion.
