Stepping to the entrance to the cave, J spotted a flash off to the south of their location. He knew they were not alone. Getting the Lieutenant's attention, J focused his gaze on the spot where he saw the flash. He couldn't see anything through the still continuing snow storm and light was fading fast as well.
"Well, we got company. And I was just getting used to this place. Grab your gear."
The Lieutenant picked up his back pack and weapon, walking over to J.
"Who do you think it is Sir?"
"TLF most likely but it could be anyone. Better safe than sorry. We're gonna have to get out of here and now."

Marla quietly whispers to Ben. "I might have an idea. If it works, it should get us close enough to the guy to pick him off." she puts her hand up to his ear and tells him her plan "this guy is a colonial officer, right? ok, they are supposed to be Honor bound or something, so here's the idea. I will make like I'm being chased by you and run over to that place he's hiding. First though, I need you to rough me up some. Now make it beleivable. I need at minimum a cut on the cheek and a black eye. Me, being a helpless woman and all, I'm sure he's gonna take the bait. As soon as I'm in with him I'll tell him you are trying to kill me. He will more than likely head out to find you and then you will be waiting and get the jump on him then we take him hostage!" Marla then leans back and smiles as he digests what she suggests. She secretly wonders if Ben has the courage to rough her up but she's willing to make a sacrifice for the cause.

Still trying to set the field hospital up so they could treat the wounded, Ensign Maggie Herrod was busy issuing orders to the medics and Marines around her. Suddenly, out of nowhere, there appeared a couple dozen armed men and women. One of the Marines raised his weapon and fired, all hell breaking loose shortly after. Rounds flew through the night sky, hitting bodies and sending blood everywhere. Maggie dove for cover, watching as a young Terran medic was shot in the face. Maggie threw up, not even realizing it. Within minutes, it was all over. The attackers were pushed back by the tenacity of the Marines, who showed them no mercy. A Sergeant came over to her.
"Ensign, get up. There are wounded."
Picking herself up, Maggie wiped the snow from her jacket, picked up a med kit, and went to the young Terran. He was dead. Maggie was now on auto pilot, moving from one wounded person to another. As she began applying pressure to a wounded Marine, she couldn't help but wonder.
Why? Why would they do that? We're a hospital, don't they realize that?

Captain Jo Martin was glad she was heading back to the air field. What with this solar flare and the weather, handling the Viper was like trying to ride a bathtub down a mountainside. Unsure if the other pilots could hear her, she called out to the CAP.
"Back to the barn ladies and gents. Visibility is zero and the flare up is wreaking havoc with the electronics."
To make certain, she got close to each plane and tapped her headset. Once all pilots acknowledged her signal, she banked up and to the right, heading back to the Terran airfield. As of now, the Colonial forces on the ground no longer had air cover to support them.

Elea awakened to the sound of Terran music, a man at the fireside whittling, and a young girl softly cleaning the dried remnants of blood from her face and hair.
"The woman awakens, Mikel."
Elea looked around, her face still wet with the soapy substance. Her face was stinging, the result of the terran ointment on her set of new stitches over her eye. She winced as she acknowledged the pain.
"Where is this place? Where am I?" She asked meekly.

J continues to scan the countryside as best as he can. Although the snow has abated some, the weather and solar activity is still causing problems for them. J no longer hears the comforting sound of the Vipers or Raptors overhead. Earlier, he could hear the sound of gunfire off to the north. He knew the TLF was in the area. How much of a coup that would be to get captured by the TLF. Admiral Middleton would surely have his head then. She was already going to have his ass on a platter. Just as J was about to turn and wake the Lieutenant, J saw something in the distance. It looked like a....woman....out here, running. Was it some sort of trap? Most likely, but in this weather, J couldn't just ignore her. Besides, if it were a trap, what better way to gain a tactical advantage than to grab hold of one of the TLF?

The young girl looked at her mother then at her brother as though wishing to ask them: "What should I say?"
The mother, a staunch and proper farmer's wife, with a sour look that could scare a Pikon cougar from it's lair, spoke with authority and a deep rural drawl.
"Yar're in the home of a Taarran fam'lie. The kind of fam'lie who have nou time for petty political affiliations, nor thoughts of space invaders or the likes. My son has chosen to help yew in your time of distress. When yar're able, yew will werk with us at aer sides. Until yew wish to leafve, that is."
Elea nodded her agreement.

Marla has on a jacket over her t-shirt and jeans. She has on some boots but they are not really meant for this terrain and she has trouble keeping her footing as she runs like a jack rabbit through the snow to the area she believes the man is holed up in.
Marla gets very close to the cave and suddenly she hits a spot of ice. She twists her ankle as she slips and then falls down letting out a very loud scream. She grabs for the ankle and starts swearing in Terran about how stupid she was to have not worn snow boots.
As she is investigating her ankle it starts to swell. She looks up at the snowfall and knows she will probably freeze right here unless someone comes to her aid. She starts yelling for help. "Help.......Is anyone out there? I can't walk.......... I think I broke my ankle and someone is chasing me. I need help!"

As J is watching the area outside the cave, he suddenly hears a female voice call out. Suspecting a trap, J cannot leave anyone, least of all a woman, to freeze to death outside. Looking at the Lieutenant, J whispers to him.
"Sshh! I'm going out there to find whoever it is out there. Apparently, they're in trouble. I know it's probably a trap, but I can't leave them out there, not in this weather."
The Lieutenant gets up with his rifle. Looking past J, he remarks slyly.
"Well Sir, if that's the plan, then so be it. And if it's a trap, I'll be ready for one of my own in here. Just be careful Sir. It really should be me going out there, you know?"
"Nonsense Lieutenant. I may be a General but I haven't been one so long as to not remember how to be a Marine. Besides, I have a feeling if we ever get out of here and back to HQ, Vice Admiral Middleton is going to have my ass. Now keep an eye out for anyone else that may be lurking around out there."
J stepped out of the cave, no weapon visible. If there were someone out there who was injured, coming at them with a weapon would only scare the crap out of them. Still, he had the feeling there were dozens of eyes upon him.
Walking slowly through the snow, J hears something rustling around, off to his left. He catches a glimpse of something, then it's gone. All of a sudden, he comes across a woman. He almost trips over her. Catching his balance, J looks at the woman.
"What the frak are you doing out here, in this weather, with those clothes on? Who are you? Where did you come from?"
J sees a flash of something, then it's gone. Suddenly, he hears voices. Looking at the woman, J removes his sidearm.
"I don't know who you are or who is with you but you're coming with me."
J helps the woman get to her feet. While doing so, he quickly finds she is carrying a sidearm as well. Taking the weapon from her, he has hold of her right arm, rather tightly so as to impress upon her the situation.
"Hmmmm....I wonder what this is for? No matter, try anything, and that injury to your foot will be the least of your worries. I have no qualms about shooting a woman, especially a terrorist."
J was certain she was from the TLF. His most pressing concern though was the other voices out here. he had this feeling they weren't TLF and that meant they were Gondawan and if that were the case, they had much more to worry about than some terrorists.
"Let's get moving missy before we end up somewhere neither of us wants to be."
J moved as fast as he could towards the cave. He could see the opening, and the Lieutenant standing there. As soon as he made a dash for the entrance, a crude spear type weapon flew past his head and almost hit the Lieutenant. The Lieutenant in turn let loose with a few shots, mostly to scare off the attackers. J was certain they were Gondawans now. They really needed to get in touch with the Fleet somehow and soon.
Once inside the cave, J let go of the woman, pointing for her to sit down. J walked back to the cave entrance and saw that nobody was out there. It didn't matter. They were stuck inside here, unless there was a back door to the place they hadn't discovered yet.

As the man nearly trips on her, Marla cries out in pain when he stumbles across her lower leg. She grabs the right leg and holds her ankle as she fights off tears.
He reaches down and lifts her up and her stupid gun is apparently uncovered by her jacket cause he took it off her all of a sudden. More concerned about her ankle than her sidearm she hobbles with him to the shelter of that dark cave. She hopes there is a fire somewhere farther back that she can't see yet.
He pinches her arm and she winces. When he asks her who she is and what she's doing dressed like that out in weather like this she thinks before she answers him. He doesn't appear to be in a very forgiving mood and she's wondering if her plan was such a good one after all. With no weapon she has no way to take him prisoner back to Ben.
Marla licks her lips then shyly looks up at the man's face. His eyes are not smiling. "My name is Marla. I'm out here because my vehicle crashed and when I left home this attire was sufficient. It seems I have attracted the unwanted infatuation of someone. There is a man who ran me off the road some way back and he's been shooting at me ever since. I have no idea why. I'm very glad you helped me and I won't cause you any problems. I always carry that little gun just in case." she laughs "hell, it's probably not even loaded. Usually just showing it is protection enough. You can keep it, as long as you don't let (nods at the outside of the cave) him get me" Marla sits down on a log and smiles as she sits near the small campfire and warms her hands over the flame.
She looks at him again and notices others in the carved out area of the mountain with them. "Ok, you know my name, what's yours? And if I can ask, what are YOU doing out here?"

Her injuries healing slowly, Elea continues to help the Clarrens family in their quest for survival on a planet that gives very little assistance in their stuggle.
"No," the little girl with the long blonde hair knotted back and the printed short dress said in her thick accent, "You halfve to beat the seeds like this to get the shells off, or you'll be crunching them instead of the tasty center."
Elea smiled and obeyed. Thankful for a chance to be away from the warring worlds come asunder upon this planet, so far from the colonies ... so far from her own fam'lie.

Major Kala finally reached the landing site and saw the wounded and dead, both Colonials and what were either terrorists or perhaps locals. Looking at his comm specialist, the Major knew there was no use in sending a signal, at least not for the next couple of days. Once the solar activity passed the planet, they would be able to contact their headquarters. Until then, they were on their own. Looking at the Marines and Fleet personnel around her, Major Kala began issuing orders.
"Allright, until we can contact the Fleet or our people, we're on our own. I want a perimeter set up around this encampment. Our recon team made it to the site of the downed transport. The survivors are gone. My guess is the locals have them, so there's a good chance we'll get them back."
Looking at the Ensign in charge of the med teams, Major Kala walked up to her.
"I realize you are a nurse but you're the senior medical officer we have. I don't know if we'll get attacked again or not, but if we do, I want you and your people to take cover in the raptors. Is there anything I can do to help?"

Ensign Maggie Herrod just stood there, sort of in a daze. She was aware of the wounded around her and she was aware of this Colonial Marine standing in front of her. Beyond that, Maggie was somewhere else, back home. Suddenly, she became alert. Looking at the Major, she cleared the hair from her face.
"I'm sorry Major, you were saying?"
"I was saying Ensign, you're the senior medical officer here. Is there anything I can do to help?"
"No, Major, we've got things set up and are treating the wounded. Any idea when we can expect to get them out of here?"
Major Kala looked at the raptors, then back to Maggie.
"Well, they managed to hit the engines, so we aren't going anywhere until we can contact someone."
"Well, we have plenty of morpha and perco to handle the pain. I've stabilized the more serious wounded and have stopped the bleeding but we need to get them to a hospital, soon."
Maggie knew they were in a jam and she didn't want to tell this Marine how to do her job but she also didn't want to lose any patients. Perhaps they could get in touch with the locals and see if they could help.
"Is there any chance of the locals around here helping us?"
Major Kala thought for a moment, then replied.
"Doubtful Ensign, they don't want us here in their homeland. We're trespassers here. Let me know if you need anything."
"Thank you Major, I will."

Elea thought about J, wondering where he could be in all this mess.
"Certainly directing the forces to bring some sense of peace to this planet, and hopefully looking for her," she said out loud as she mixed the Sameala beans with the molten molasses to set out for the boys and men the next day. They each would come pouring in from the fields, hungrier than she'd ever seen even the toughest corps of Colonial Marines.
Tomorrow night was the harvest fest. She'd be dressing up with the other women to celebrate a month's hard work, and the bounty of their work for this season.
I did say dressing up! Those Terrans really know how to swing.

As J stood there listening to the womans explanation as to how she came to be here, in the middle of nowhere and during a raging snow storm, J thought of Elea and how she was sitting at home, with Alicia and the girls. Suddenly, he had a terrible feeling that all was not right, that Elea was not where she should be. J shook himself back to the present, hearing the woman say how she had crashed. "You say you crashed near here. What were you doing driving a vehicle, here in the Gondawa region, during a snowstorm?" J knew there was more to this woman than met the eye. He bent down and poured a cup of coffee and handed it to the woman. Either way he looked at it, she WAS injured. The swollen ankle was proof of that. "And as how I came to be here, in the middle of nowhere, is a Colonial Fleet matter." Hesitating for a second, J continued. "Actually, the raptor we were in developed mechanical problems and went down and what with this storm and the solar flare-ups, communication is down and there are no flights right now." J didn't want to let out too much information but he suspected she already knew the situation. J sat down next to the fire, looking at the woman. "You know, the Gondawans aren't exactly known for liking outsiders being in their area, and since you were driving a vehicle, clearly you are not a Gondawan, now are you? So, what part of Terra do you come from?" Current location in red
