Tired, drained and not in a good mood Former President Sirolk pulled up to his abandoned (but still maintained) getaway cabin. The yard surrounding the house was cut and maintained, the house was clean and dust free and there should be fresh food stocked inside after today's phone call to the company who maintained the site. After being cleared by the house bio sensors he walked inside, placing his suitcase off to the side of the front door and looked around. He realized he needed to still buy new furniture, and there were still some boxes left to unpack. Single life was making him lazy. Normally everything would have been replaced and put away in a few days, but the divorce and loss of his wife and kids, his family, had driven him to laziness & depression. His health had suffered to the point where he had been recently rushed to the Fleet Hospital. His closer than comfortable brush with mortality had given his life focus, reawakened his inner drive and passion. Yes his time as a family man had ended, and for all intents and purposes she and the kids were dead and gone to him. But that didn't mean his life was over! Far from it he realized. Activating the cabins external security, Sirolk pulled out his phone and headed towards his office. There was work to be done, and it was time he started living his life again...

I was sitting outside on my deck, finishing lunch, when the nuke went off. Far out in the distance was a momentary flash of light, followed by the barely visable top of a mushroom cloud off in the horizon. I staggered to my feet, blinking my eyes furiously when the sound hit me. A roar which I had hoped never to hear again pounded in my ears. A light wind brushed against my skin, thankfully I must have been far enough away to avoid the blast. Running inside I immediately activated the house defenses lockdown mode while heading to the bathroom. After tossing my clothes in the trash I hopped into the shower for quick decontamination. Getting out and wrapping a towel around myself, I went to the hallway closet and pulled out a bag from the back for treatment. I found the correct needle and injected myself. I wasn't 100% sure what was in there, but I was told to inject it in the case of nuclear fallout. That done, I took out the radiation counter and checked the house. Rads were defintely up inside, but had not reached dangerous levels, confirming my guess that I was out of the blast zone for the nuke. Thank gods for the extra shielding materials I had placed in the house's construction. Relief swept through me, to be immediately followed by a nervous energy. My hands started to shake. I slid down to the floor, thinking to myself "Dear Gods, please, not again!?!" I gave myself 60 seconds to react... 60 seconds of disbelief, rage, sadness and fear! Afterwards, dried and dressed and in my office, I placed a priority call to the Ministry of Defense. (ringing...) (Continued in Ministry of Defense...)

I noticed the display saying I had a message. It was from one of the President's aides. President McPherson was requesting my presence at once at her office apparently. Grabbing a suitcase, I tossed in my tablet along with some hard copies of certain data that might come in handy. Stepping outside, I lock down the house. Not much later my transport arrives. Returning the soldiers salute, I climb aboard and head out. (Continued in Office of the President...)
