Raul walked into the Stations CIC and saw the Admiral standing there looking over the DRADIS console. Coming up to the table, he asked what was happening.
"Admiral, is there anything I can do?"
Admiral Johnson looked at Raul and smiled.
"No Captain Ortega, seems we have a weak DRADIS contact far out from this system. I doubt if it's the Cylons only bcause it's coming from an area of space where neither ourselves or the Cylons have ever taken the time to investigate. The only thing we do know about the location is there is a very large star cluster there and there could be a habitable planet there as well. I've ordered two raptors launched and since th distance is so great, it'll be several days before we hear back from them. Until then, we're keeping an eye on the object, that is, when it coms into DRADIS range. Any thoughts?"
Raul was new to this assignment, having only been here for about a month. he wasn't prepared to go offering opinions on matters he was not directly involved in. Ever since the loss of the Acheron, he had been moved from one dreary assignment to another. This was no exception as far as he was concerned. Looking at the Admiral, he gave the best answer he could come up with.
"With it being where it is and what with there also being a rather large nebula out there, it could be nothing more than an echo from one of the planets in that star cluster or even outside the cluster. Any reason we didn't send a larger more capable ship?"
"Well considering the fact that most of the fleet is in the shipyards for repairs ranging from the mundane to complete overhauls and rebuilds, the only active battlestar is the Independence and the Admiralty feels it best of they are close to Terra, just in case. We haven't heard back from HQ so the best I can do from here is send raptors."
"Yes ma'am, we lost a number of ships and almost twice as many more were severely damaged in the last Cylon attack. I stabd ready for whatever assignment you need me for."

"Comm Center Supply Station, this is Raptor 761. We are aborting our mission, say again, we are aborting our mission. We have reached the third jump coordinates. DRADIS has picked up what appears to be a super nova and we are at the outer limits of the danger zone. We cannot proceed to the next jump coordinates without placing ourselves in jeopardy. We are returning home. Raptor 761 out."
Looking at the young man seated next to her.
"We're going home Ensign. Too dangerous to proceed. DRADIS at the station must've picked up that star going super nova. If there was a ship out there, it's gone by now. Hell, anything in the immediate area of that star is gone. We stick around here too much longer and we'll be gone."
Reaching to enter the coordinates for the return trip home, K made one last sweep of the area before confirming her course. Nothing but a whole lot of nothing out there.
"Three, two, one, JUMP!"

Kalia listened to the message from the lead raptor assigned to investigate the recent DRADIS contact. Due to the distance, the message was already several days old which meant that the raptors were already on their way back home. Fleet HQ was already aware of the situation and already several planetary and space based telescopes were now pointed in the direction of the location in space where the initial DRADIS signal originated and now was being reported as a super nova. Kalia walked over to the communications console and spoke to the Communications Officer.
"Major Walken, send a message to Fleet HQ, advise even though they should already be aware of the situation. Also, find out when this happened and what impact it's going to have on us, the whole system."
"Will do Admiral."
Turning to the DRADIS console area, Kalia spoke to the DRADIS Officer.
"Captain Affleck, double check DRADIS. Make certain of what's out there. It's possible the initial contact was us finally picking up a star going super nova but I still want to be certain. Intel says there was a recent Cylon defection, someone high up in thee Cylon food chain, so to speak. Could be related, never know."
"Aye Admiral."

K looked out the front of the raptor. Empty space. Checking the Nav screen, she looked at their location. Yeah, they were where they were supposed to be, just pointing in the opposite direction. Taking the controls, she maneuvered the raptor 180 degrees. There it was. Keying her comm link, she called out.
"Sierra Charlie Seven Seven Seven, Raptor 761. We have returned from aborted mission, say again, we are in your perimeter. Request clearance to land, over."

having landed the raptor and checking to make certain the other raptor had followed along, K completed her shutdown and then exited the raptor. Handing her log book to the Deck Chief, she headed to the Station Command Center to speak to the Admiral.

Kalia sat in her office, looking over the report from the recon of the DRADIS contact, which now turns out to be a star having gone supernova. She was waiting for Major Castorious, her new CAG, to come to her office with a first hand report. Already, scientists were now directing their telescopes in that direction to determine when this event took place and how far away it is. She had already seen the preliminary data from her people and it didn't look good.
"Ten years, maybe a little longer. That's when the damn thing is expected to reach the Terran system."
The young Colonel sitting across from her just stared, unsure as to what to say. She was unsure if there was anything to say.
"Colonel, if these calculations are correct, we better start looking for a new home, and soon."
"Admiral, perhaps we don't have to look for a new home. Last reports I read, the radiation back on the Colonies, at least several of them, has diminished to levels that can be considered safe."
"True, but how the hell do you evacuate over three billion people?"

K finally made her way to the Admirals office. She was still trying to get used to this place. Being assigned to a Battlestar was so much easier. This place had so many turns and twists, it's a wonder she didn't end up in the Main Core. Knocking on the door, she waited a second or two before entering. Standing in front of the Admirals desk, she glanced at the young female Colonel sitting there. Monroe, or something like that. Just barely 30 years old and a Colonel.
"Admiral Johnson, Major Castorious reporting in from the aborted recon mission."

Having been in the Admirals office for a little over six hours, K was ready to burst. She had to pee, was hungry and needed to take a shower and get some rest. Now she was being ordered to report to Terra, to the Chief Administrator's office for an assignment. She knew what that entailed. She would report on the supernova and provide whatever assistance to the government to get things moving along. She smiled a moment, realizing she just inherited the same job her brother head once held, Civilian Liaison. Walking out of the office, she headed to her quarters on the Station, unsure what she would tell the civilian types back on Terra. For now, she needed to find the nearest head so she could relieve herself.

Carlie entered the Council Chambers, scanning the room for specific faces. Of course, everyone was here. The news outlets and other media types were there as well. This would be broadcast to the entire planet and to all the Stations, settlements, depots and anything else that had humans in attendance. The time was now to make the official announcement and to begin the evacuation of the planet and system. As she walked towards the front of the Chambers, she smiled and nodded to those near the aisle, waving to others. She hated this part of the job. Actually, she hated the job itself but thanks to J Castorious, she had been given no other choice but to accept the reigns of power. Smiling at the Speaker of the Council, Josephine Goodall, Carlie stepped to the podium. Gesturing for the room to become quiet, she waited a few seconds before speaking.
"My fellow citizens, I speak to you today about a grave matter, one which by now most, if not all, of you are aware of in some manner or form. Several months ago, a supernova was detected some 40 to 50 light years away from here. The effects, the radiation, was detected about 30 light years from our system, which means the wave of the supernova is already on its way through the galaxy. Since there are so many variables and factors that will define the strength of the radiation before it arrives, we must take prudent, severe measures, to ensure the survival of our civilization. Preparations have been underway since the discovery of the supernova to, well, make certain our society and way of life continue. Those preparations include the launching of several missions to find a suitable new home for our people."
Carlie paused for a moment and took a sip of water from the glass in front of her.
"Ships, loaded with supplies, equipment, and personnel have been dispatched to several locations already known to us. Although it has been decided on one location to serve as our new home world, a few other locations will still be utilized as well. It has been decided that we will concentrate our efforts on settling on Kobol."
Carlie stopped. She looked at the expressions on the faces of those in attendance. Terrans, Colonials, Gondawans, Federalists, Nationalists, every sect and party and group on the planet had their representatives here. For just a second or two, there was a hushed calm. Then the shouts began. Carlie held her right hand up and the room quieted.
"We have held many, many discussions regarding this matter, every party and group was represented. The decision, while ultimately mine, was agreed upon by everyone. Unanimously. Now, we know not everyone will wish to leave, that there will be many who will want to take their chances. They will be given that right, the same as anyone who wishes to go to one of two other locations. Those locations are Avalon, the very well kept secret location known as the Alpha Site and of course, New Caprica. The decision to not return to the Colonies of Kobol was stressed by the Colonial delegates. Too much time has elapsed back on the 12 Colonies, so much that any sudden return or arrival of not just Colonial citizens but Terrans as well would cause a political and most likely military situation that would not benefit anyone involved. We have ships heading towards Kobol as we speak, and there are ships heading to Avalon and New Caprica as well. Since we have a total population not just here on Terra but throughout the Fleet and the solar system of a little over 3 billion souls, the logistics are very daunting."
Taking another sip of water, Carlie continued.
"We are fortunate to have at our disposal the Drex Star, which as I speak, is being fitted to accommodate 1 billion stasis pods, which are also being constructed at several sites across the planet. There is also a ship that belongs to the Gondawans, hidden all these two thousand plus years on Terras smaller moon and which was just recently discovered by the Fleet last year. The ship already has stasis pods on board so they are being duplicated, which is why we are able to construct them so quickly. Within a year, the Drex Star will be ready to begin the boarding process. As for those wishing to go elsewhere, ships are available and being assigned to that purpose solely and will begin departing as soon as supplies and assigned personnel are loaded. I want to make this abundantly clear to EVERYONE, no person or group will be left behind that does not wish to remain here. Ships Captains and shipping companies will be fairly compensated by the government. There will be no profiteering taking place. Anyone or any company discovered doing so shall pay a very stiff penalty. You will lose your ships, crews and assets, immediately. There will be no graft taking place either. Accept a bribe, you will be left behind, on the surface. I promise you this. I wish to cut this announcement short. There will be more information to follow within a few days. Thank you."
Carlie hurriedly left the podium and exited stage left, escorted by her security detail and staff. She still had a meeting with the head of TerraBankCorp and of course, the Judge. She could hardly wait.

Rachel was surprised how easily she was able to fit into the humdrum of the station. She was still trying to find out what all the activity was and why there were so many ships present. What she couldn't figure out was why there were so few military ships. Obviously this was not a military mission, which meant she had to find out what was going on. Perhaps her sister could tell her, if she could locate her. And to do that would require a trip to terra.

All was quiet on the Station, save for the hum of equipment. It had been a few months now since the supernova had passed through the solar system and thankfully, the gamma wave was nowhere near as strong as feared. Soon the Drex Star would be returning with the majority of her passengers. Already shipping was picking up and supplies were being delivered to the Station and then to the mining settlements and elsewhere. Life had once again settled into its own little routine.
Kalia knew that wouldn't last forever. It never did.

K was ready to head home and get this patrol over with. Soon the bulk of the Fleet would be going into the shipyards and getting some major overhauls completed.
And that meant some much needed shore leave, even for those assigned to the Supply Station.
"Viper Two Four Four to Supply Station Control, heading home, over."
"Copy that Two Four Four, Landing Bay 3 is clear, welcome home."
"Copy that Control Landing Bay 3, out."

Kalia had been reading a novel when the message came through to her quarters. Jumping out of bed, she grabbed her jacket and made her way to the Stations Command Center. Making her way into the now crowded CC, she asked the duty officer what was going on.
"Status report Captain."
"Ma'am, a nuclear detonation has occurred on Terra, Frondal Islands in the Southern Hemisphere, no report on casualties, origin of the device or if any further attacks have taken place. As a precaution, I have ordered all ships and vessels to depart the Station, the alert squadron has been launched and all non-essential personnel have been directed to move to the secure areas of the Station. We have 7,891 souls on board, not counting ships compliments. Weapons are hot and ready, DRADIS is clear, we are at Condition One."
"Very good, notify Fleet HQ of our Status and if you haven't already done so, contact all other Stations as well."
"Aye Admiral."

On the Bridge of the Drex Star As Rear Admiral Basai Makata (CF) (NPC)
As the massive Drex Star left the Terran System, Admiral Makata stood there on the Bridge, staring out into the vast emptiness of space. Looking at her Communications Officer, a middle-aged woman who hailed from Leonis as a young child, she gave the command to notify the Supply Station of their departure.
"Captain Greyson, notify Fleet Supply Station we are departing friendly air space and to keep the faith."
"Aye Admiral, Fleet Supply Station this is Drex Star, we are departing terran System, local time is now 1847 hours. Drex Star Actual says keep the faith, this is Drex Star out."
"Excellent. Helm, set FTL coordinates and start the clock."
"Helm, Aye Sir. Coordinates for first jump are entered and have been verified. Jump in 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1......JUMP!"
And with a WHOOSH sort of sound (like you can hear anything in space), the massive Drex Star vanishes!
