Three months prior to current events
Joseph was busy chowing down on the food in front of him. He hadn't been eating properly these past few months and in particular, these past few days. He was hungry and tired and in no real mood to listen to cloak-and-dagger stories, even from the President. He looked up at the man, noodles hanging from his mouth. A slight smile crossed his lips, then he sucked the noodles in with a swoosh. Wiping his mouth, he apologized to the President.
"Forgive me Sir, it's been a bit since I ate last. Do you really think now is the time to dissolve the government, for whatever reasons you have? I mean, that's going to throw a lot of people into a panic. Are you sure the terrans can handle things?"
Phineas was a bit grossed out by Joseph's eating habits but this was not the time to school the man on proper etiquette at the table.
"The terrans are more than capable of handling the affairs of government Captain, I assure you.. Besides, there is a specific reason for my resignation that goes beyond the practical needs. The Cylons are planning another attack, a major one. This time, they'll use their nukes, albeit in a limited fashion. Our former Secretary of Defense will be leading this attack. He's convinced it'll work this time. That and he needs to show the others he is still a force to be reckoned with. The fact I will be announcing where I will be, well, it'll be too much for him to resist."
Phineas knew the Cavils were aching to invade the planet. The temptation was too great. He also knew that the Cavils were aware of the internal conflict taking place among the terrans. That, and the opportunity to extract some revenge on himself, well, that was too much of a prize for them to ignore. And if all went well, it would be their undoing.
"Captain, you will not be alone in this endeavor. You have heard of Judge Schwein, the terran judge? Well, she's the actual power on the planet, her and a colorful character named Drexl. Both are equally brilliant and just as equally dangerous. To assist you though, I would like to send to you a former Colonial officer, one with skills that you may just require. When the time is right, you'll see why you need him."
Joseph had indeed heard of Judge Judith Schwein. He had also heard mentioned the name Drexl. The man was responsible for the majority of the civilian ships that were in use by both the Colonials and terrans. The man was a genius and like most geniuses, the man was a bit on the unstable side. Joseph had heard rumors of people who had crossed the man simply disappearing into thin air, or out of an airlock at the least. This would be interesting to say the least. Joseph sat his bowl down and looked at the President.
"So, when will Colonel Dualla be joining us?"
